Heart: The Source of Life and Vitality
The heart, one of the organs of the circulatory system, is regarded as the source of life and vitality. For this reason, there is a widespread belief among people that the soul resides in the heart. The heart, which begins beating at 6 months in the womb, allows all other organs to shape themselves around it. Despite weighing approximately 300g and having a volume comparable to an average adult's fist, it has extremely critical and vital functions for the body.

The heart is located just below the sternum. It removes waste materials produced from metabolic activities, regulates body temperature, maintains acid-base balance, and facilitates the delivery of hormones to relevant organs. However, its most fundamental role is to pump blood throughout the body. It contracts and relaxes approximately 104,000 times per day and nearly 38 million times per year. For this reason, it has a structure woven with muscles. Through the pumping reflex it performs, it enables blood movement within the circulatory system. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients essential to the body. The heart has a highly systematic structure, and even the smallest disruption in this mechanism can lead to the end of life.

The Heart Goes Unnoticed.
The primary condition for all other organs to perform their functions completely is the heart's stable operation. In this regard, the heart, which is essentially the engine of the vital system, never stops and pumps nearly 3,000 tons of blood annually to the body.

In situations requiring high physical effort such as running and climbing, or in cases involving sudden emotional changes such as fear, the heart beats faster and stronger. People can easily feel this noticeable difference in their chests. Despite being an organ that makes people tangibly feel all physical and emotional differences, the heart often goes unnoticed, just like other organs. This is because whenever an organ makes itself felt, there is a problem. An organ that goes unnoticed and is even forgotten is healthy. This is why when someone says, "I have a heart!" they are certain that their heart is troubled. In other words, their heart has begun to make its presence felt to them.

Heart Health Week
Cardiovascular diseases rank among the most serious health problems resulting in death. Worldwide, 17 million people, and in our country approximately 160,000 people, die every year from cardiovascular diseases. For this reason, the second week of April each year is designated as Heart Health Week. The purpose is to alert people, raise awareness, and create consciousness about this matter.

Recommendations for Protecting Heart Health
A considerable portion of cardiovascular diseases can be controlled through certain lifestyle modifications. The World Health Organization emphasizes that more than 75% of deaths related to cardiovascular diseases can be prevented with careful attention to risk factors.

Eat Healthily
Proper and balanced nutrition is of great importance for heart health. Red meat consumption should be limited and eaten 2 times per week at 100 grams per serving. Sweet consumption must be restricted. Dairy desserts should be preferred over flour-based ones. Daily salt intake should not exceed 5 grams. Fresh vegetables and fruits are essential for a healthy heart.

Reach Your Ideal Weight
Research shows that obesity contributes to the development of cardiovascular diseases. Particularly, fats accumulated around the abdomen increase disease risk. Therefore, waist circumference should not exceed 98 centimeters in men and 88 centimeters in women. Achieving and maintaining ideal weight is very important. Even a 10% weight loss can significantly reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Quit Smoking
Smoking ranks first among preventable causes of death and is directly linked to cardiovascular diseases. The use of tobacco products causes blockage of heart vessels. This makes heart attacks inevitable. Research shows that even individuals who smoke only a single cigarette per day face the risk of heart attack.

Do Not Neglect Exercise
Although modern life provides comfort that offers great ease and convenience in daily tasks, it has caused people to move much less. Sedentary lifestyle is an important risk factor in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Research has shown that regular and proper exercise improves heart health and reduces mortality rates by 23%.

Avoid Stress
Prolonged and intense stress that cannot be controlled creates conditions for cardiovascular disease development. Stress activates the sympathetic nervous system and causes excessive adrenaline secretion in the adrenal gland. As a result, heart rate and breathing rate increase; blood pressure and blood sugar rise. To manage stress, one should not hesitate to seek help from a professional. Massage, yoga, and meditation techniques that the person finds relaxing can be quite helpful in this regard.

Be Happy
Happiness and pleasure are often confused with each other, yet they are quite different. There is a serious psychological problem called pleasure addiction. However, no concept of happiness addiction exists. Happiness encompasses a process. It is possible to derive pleasure from things at every moment. However, this does not always mean happiness. When a person is happy, the body secretes endorphin hormone, which is very beneficial for heart health. Endorphin is also called the pleasure and happiness hormone. For this reason, individuals must find what truly makes them happy and do it.

Get Your Heart Checked
Cardiovascular diseases typically progress silently without showing symptoms. Therefore, early diagnosis plays an important role in implementing treatment. Regular medical checkups at appropriate intervals allow diseases to be detected before reaching serious levels.
