Is Your Skin Ready for Summer?
The Season Has Changed, It's Time for Skin Care

As spring's coolness gives way to summer's hot days, our skin is working to adapt to these seasonal changes. With the sun's effects becoming more pronounced, protecting skin health and preventing various problems becomes more important than ever. Rising temperatures and humid air can cause some changes in our skin, and our skin may appear more oily during this period. Our skin, becoming more sensitive to the sun, requires extra care. This way, while protecting our skin health, we can also support the vibrant and radiant appearance that summer brings.

Dr. Merve Oflaz Gider, doctor at Infinity Regenerative Clinic, draws attention to skin problems frequently encountered in summer months and the critical role of environmental factors in these problems: "While enjoying summer, we should not neglect our skin health. Because during this period, the sun's ultraviolet rays are at their most intense level, and this can trigger many skin problems such as sunburns, allergic reactions, bacterial and fungal infections, sun spots, heat rash, and skin dryness. We must not forget that people with light skin tones are much more sensitive to the harmful effects of the sun due to their genetic predisposition."

"Our Skin Remains Exposed to Ultraviolet Rays Even in Shaded Areas"

Emphasizing that the best defense against the sun's harmful effects on the skin is the proper use of sunscreen, Dr. Oflaz shared critical information on product selection and application: "During summer months, sunscreen is of paramount importance for skin health, not only when exposed directly to the sun, but through reflection and even in shaded areas, our skin remains exposed to ultraviolet rays. Therefore, high protection factor (SPF 30 and above) and broad-spectrum (with UVA and UVB protection) sunscreens from reliable brands should be preferred. Individuals with allergic and sensitive skin types should consult their dermatologists to select products most suitable for their skin types, preferably those free of fragrance and parabens. Sunscreen application should be done 20-30 minutes before sun exposure, and should be regularly repeated (every 2-3 hours) throughout the day, especially after sweating, swimming, or drying with a towel. Avoiding direct sunlight between 10:00-16:00 when the sun is most intense and preferring shaded areas will provide an additional layer of protection. While protecting yourself from the sun's harmful effects is the first step, targeted solutions for problems frequently encountered in summer months such as sun spots, acne flare-ups, and skin dryness are of great importance. At this point, professional applications determined through proper analysis of skin type and detailed examination of existing problems come into play. For example, different laser technologies or chemical peeling methods can be used for sun spots, specialized cleansing treatments and medical care can be beneficial for those with acne problems. For those experiencing skin dryness, intensive moisturizing and barrier repair treatments can be selected. Therefore, addressing summer skin health with a holistic approach and seeking advice from a physician regarding personalized needs is the most appropriate approach to prevent potential problems and reduce the effects of existing ones."

"Sun Spots Do Not Heal on Their Own"

Dr. Oflaz Gider notes that prolonged, regular, and unprotected exposure to the sun, especially in fair-skinned individuals, can lead to permanent sun spots, and explained the formation mechanism and treatment options for these spots: "Sun spots result from excessive production of melanin pigment and are generally concentrated in areas most exposed to the sun, such as the nose, cheeks, forehead, upper lip, neck, back, and shoulders. Preventing the formation of these spots requires that individuals of all ages use sunscreen suitable for their skin type with a high protection factor and apply it regularly throughout the year. Unfortunately, existing sun spots do not heal on their own. In this case, various medical aesthetic applications such as topical creams, chemical peeling, laser treatments, and microdermabrasion can be evaluated under physician supervision. The treatment process is planned individually and requires patience," she noted. Highlighting that increased heat and humidity in this period negatively affect skin health, she continued: "During this period, problems such as acne, discoloration, irritation, and infection are frequently seen. Using a cleanser, moisturizer, and high-factor sunscreen suitable for skin type is of vital importance. In addition to proper skin care routine, personalized dermocosmetological applications play a critical role in treating existing problems and preventing possible complications."

As Dr. Merve Oflaz Gider from Infinity Regenerative Clinic has shared, when considering each person's skin, genetic history, and life circumstances, the best way to protect skin health during summer months is to adopt a personalized health management understanding rather than standard applications. Additionally, detailed dermocosmetological applications determined following comprehensive skin analysis by a specialist physician can provide special solutions for skin problems, increasing the likelihood of successful treatment outcomes. These applications support healthy skin structure, allowing the negative effects of summer on the skin to be minimized. The results obtained through personalized approaches not only improve skin health but also help maintain long-term well-being. These solutions support the body's balance, making them important steps in achieving sustainable health. This holistic approach highlights the importance of addressing healthy nutrition habits and overall well-being together.
